SATURDAY 5 MARCH - A Memorable day in South Australia

Today my kind and generous hosts went way out of their way to show me why it is that they think South Australia is one of the best parts of the world in which to live.

Ian Hardy together with his wife Ann and daughter Caroline took me on a trip to the world famous wine region of the Barossa valley to the north east of the city. This is a beautiful region with wide open rolling countryside and farmland. It produces many of the fine wines for which Australia is justifiably proud. Our visit took us for lunch to the Saltram winery at the town of Angaston.

On the way back to Adelaide we passed through the spectacular scenery of the Eden Valley -

and the Mount Lofty Visitor Centre to enjoy the magnificent view out across the city.

My memorable day was not over as when I returned to my hotel I received a call from my Eldercare host Jane McLeay with the news that she had arranged to take me for an evening wildlife walk in the forested area of the Warrawong Wildlife Reserve. We drove up into the hills and for a couple of hours joined a guided walk through the forest where we got up close and personal with all kinds of kangaroo, wallabies, possums and other nocturnal marsupials. A great opportunity to meet some of Australia's wildlife in their natural habitat.

How do you do Skippy? Shall we dance?
